Levitra is a drug for treating erectile dysfunction (impotence) in men. It comes in the form of tablets for oral use. Levitra tablets can be taken with or without food, about an hour before sexual activity. Some form of sexual stimulation is needed for an erection to occur with Levitra.

Since Levitra is used as needed, patients are not likely to miss a dose. Symptoms of Levitra overdose are not known but they might include chest pain, back pain, dizziness, irregular heartbeat, altered vision, and swelling of ankles or legs. Immediate medical attention should be sought if an overdose is suspected.

Common Levitra side effects include headache, flushing, and stuffy or runny nose. Less common effects include priapism (erection lasting over 4 hours) and altered vision. In case of priapism, emergency medical attention is needed. Some other effects may also occur.

Patients who have a history of heart problems and/or blood pressure, liver disease, kidney problems, blood or bleeding disorders, stomach ulcer, a family history of degenerative eye disease, and/or a physical deformity of the penis should not take Levitra without discussing with a doctor. Women should not take Levitra. People over 65 years of age may need a lower Levitra dosage than younger men. Patients taking nitrates and alpha blockers should not take Levitra.

Levitra pills should be stored at a temperature range of 15-30°C (59-86°F), out of children’s reach.
